Gearing up for our adventure I confess to not getting a lot of sleep.
My name is Sheila Donald and my partner in this retirement adventure is Kevin LaPaire. We have been a team for 23 years and have loved our camping. Up until last summer, we camped in a tent but it should have really been referred to as glamping because nothing we did was simple. Sure, we would pitch a tent but we then had to place a VERY LARGE tarp over the tent. We would bungee it to trees so no rain was ever going to touch us. The tarp provided a great "porch" which would house the picnic table, the naptha stove kitchen set up and a 6 ft. folding work table. Oh, and don't forget the solar lamps on the table. Needed to see to play cards and games after sunset!
Last spring Kevin finally came to his senses and realized we are not getting any younger. It was starting to get a little tougher for both of us to set up camp. Some tents can be a real battle of wills, if you know what I mean. I had been mentioning my desire to move up in the camping world and get a small motor home. During trips I would point out what I thought would suit us perfectly. We even stopped in Listowel to view a 24 ft. unit with a full side slide. Wonderful. I eventually took him to the London RV show last February to actually walk through the 24 ft. units that were there. On a whim we decided to look at one that was 27 ft. and had 2 slides. This was not even on my radar. In we went. Kevin is a man who keeps his cards very close to his chest so you never know what he is thinking. During our tour we eventually reached the bedroom. We walked in, looked at all the storage and were glad to see that both of us could walk up both sides of the bed. Next thing I know out of his mouth comes this statement - "that extra 3 feet makes all the difference in the world". Right then I knew that this was the motor home he was going to buy. Flash ahead 2 months and on April 7th, 2019 we picked up our beauty. Learning all there is to learn about an RV can be a bit daunting but we are smart people, so learn by doing. So our camping ( or do I now have to say RVing?) adventure began in early May 2019 at Pinery Provincial Park. We haven't looked back.
So, with the history out of the way, fast forward to now. I am retiring again May 1st and Kevin is retiring June 30th. He was born and raised in southern Saskatchewan and still has a lot of family out west. They are planning a Fieldberg Family reunion at the end of July so we are going on an adventure! Our departure date is set for July 8th. We are planning on taking 14 days to get there, stopping for 2 days in every campground and never driving more than 4 hr. a day. We are retirees now you know!
My blog will be filled with our daily travels, adventures and pictures. Once the reunion is over, out comes a map and the darts! Where it lands, we will Go! Stay tuned.
